Music Outside.

Finished Sea Lion woman today. The rain was coming down so heavily that the alcove outside of my room was nearly a half foot deep with water. Thank god there is a drain out there. The water was coming down like buckets. The sounds I hear from my room sometimes remind me of the background noise in the movie bladerunner. Especially right now with the muffled sounds of cars going by and rushing over the rain water. Cars honking and the light patter of rain. Probably doesn't help that I'm listening to Memories Of Green(a song from the bladerunner soundtrack).

I was watching a video that I saw placed on the Green Apple Core website called "The Library". It made me think that Snape would live there if he was just a regular gentleman about London. Check it out. Its beautiful, some would probably find it cluttered. I think its a big piece of art. I can't believe I did that Snape piece of art almost 3 years ago. Long fingers and elongated noses are some of my favorite things

Sea Lion Woman

We have been inundated with rain and storms here in the bay area. While my mom and I were in Mendocino I couldn't help but draw this while the thunder and lightning raged outside our windows. I named her after the Feist song Sea Lion Woman.

My mom and I had a great time on our trip. Great food, great chats and beautiful abide the chilled and dark weather. I have to commend her for the amount of driving she did. Miss her already! I will be getting to see my family though on the 11th of april when I take the train down for my week vacation. Much drawing will be done while in Yosemite.

Deer and Dreary

I'm pretty tired. Just woke up an hour or so ago when I didn't go to bed till 2...
Before I leave I thought I would post my most recent drawing/finished piece. Deer Lovely. I enjoy her colors.
I've got everything packed for my short sea trip with my mom. If my suitcase was more organized I would take a photo of its contents...but alas it isn't so instead I'll bring my camera and take photos of rainy scenery and me and my mom.
I'm not quite finished packing so I better hop to it...

Hope everyone has a great next couple of days!

Mr. Rabbit

My Blog has been given another lift. I recently changed the banner on my etsy site so I thought that the blog should have the same sort of look to it.

I was inspired a little by the She & Him new music video "Don't Look Back."

I also love this book. Before I graduated College my mom came up to visit and we went to see the Maurice Sendak exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum here in the city. It was amazing. He has been my favorite illustrator since I was a child and getting to see his hand drawn works brought tears to my eyes. I saw this book above among a collection of books they had to look of. I fell in love with it but the bookstore wasn't selling it. A bit saddened I went along with my days and forgot about it. Till my moms next visit and she presented me with the book! She had gone out of her way to find it for me. It is an adorable story about a little girl who just cannot think of what to get her mother for her birthday. I will be seeing my mom on in a couple days. Excitement!

ps. book art above by the amazingly talented Maurice Sendak.

Lion Den

I've been on a circus kick lately after finding some lovely circus illustrations from the 1900's while searching google images the other night. Its slightly inspired by the fact that astrologically I'm a leo. My first name also comes from 'Daniel' in the lions den. Though it was fitting.

My mom is going to be here next week and I'm pretty excited about it. Haven't seen her in a little over a month.

Listening to Iron and Wine and realizing that I need to clean my room again..oh chores.
Kind of want to do a drawing to this Iron and Wine song lyric:
"One more drink tonight, let your gray stallion rest. when he lays in the reins. born of the speed and the strength he gave."
Or this:
"My hands they seek the end of afternoon...my hands believe...and move over you..."
I wish my drawings had the grace of lyrics like that.

Unique

I went and saw 'Rango' today. I actually really enjoyed it. The humor was good and I love animals in human like costumes. When I was a kid the first things I drew over and over was animals in clothes.
I'm listening to Townes Van Zandt. I adore his music. I think it slightly inspired the drawing above. I wanted to draw a woman who is proud of who she is through and through. The feeling of freedom in self acceptance.
If you haven't listened to Townes, check his music out. If you like the sort of music that makes you think of tumbleweeds, lonely roads and country folk.

Friends Invite

I've been working on the wedding invitation drawing for my good friends. They are getting married in July and I wanted to make sure that the drawing had their likenesses. It was a really fun job to do. Not quite finished, still needs the banner with their names. I love that they wanted their cat in it. Who is an adorable maine coon that I got to baby sit for 3 days when they were out of town once.
It has been rather dreary out the last couple of days. I'm wishing for sunshine while my mom and I are out of town next week..it says there will be showers next week the first day she gets here. Usually the forecast changes though in 10 days. Here's hoping.

Hope the sun is shining for someone this week!

Day Dreaming

Just a little preview of one of the stamps I had made. I adore custom made stamps now.

I'm listening to kings of convenience right now and it makes me get excited for my mom coming to visit the middle of this month. We are taking a road trip cross the golden gate and visiting the sea side. Pictures will be taken and probably a few posted here.
I really want some rose macaroons right now. I could also go for some italian food in my home town. I will have to wait till my visit in april.
Need to stop day dreaming about the future. When errands, laundry, grocery shopping are in my present...ha.

I'm so happy where I am living now. I've been drawing something nearly everyday that I have time. I will post more art very soon.

tote-ally excited

These two things arrived on the same day. My cotton tote bags and my buttons. I'm finally getting to the task of making other things besides prints. This is what I was so excited to tell everyone. I'm so pleased with how both came out. They are both up for purchase on my etsy. I'm pretty nervous about selling this stuff but also excited.

I've been watching tons of documentaries on netflix.
Truman Documentary
Nixon Documentary(both the truman and nixon one from american experience)
Last Train Home(about the largest Migration that humans make)

and I just got a General Grant documentary in the mail..and the contender...
