spring in the winter

It is freezing outside and San Francisco is forecasting the possibility of snow on friday night or saturday morning..and I decide to draw a girl picking spring wild-flowers...

If snow did happen here in the city it would be pretty amazing. Being from Bakersfield, another city where the possibility of snow fall usually is zero, whenever it did snow it was pure magic. It snowed twice in Bakersfield in my lifetime so far. Once when I was 5 or so and again when I was in highschool.

I miss having longer hair. I keep telling myself that if my hair ever gets long enough I will sport Gibson girl hair..
It is probably my all time favorite era of clothing and hair. Hence why my Delilah drawing has the beautiful up-do.

Wonderous

Just had a wonderful dinner with my Uncle and his girlfriend Maureen at one of our mutual favorite spots "Pizzetta". It was great to spend time with them outside of Pacific Cafe where they work. I am currently watching Jurassic Park and generally just relaxing after wine and pizza and great conversation. This is a photo of the photos I keep right near my computer. I love mountains. I think there is a majesty there that I wish I could capture in my own art. I cannot wait to go to yosemite with my family in april. Many pictures will be taken...

customs

Wonderfully out of the blue one day I got a request for a custom piece from a wonderful girl named Melody. I was pretty excited to make a wedding portrait for her friends who got married back in the summer time. It also turns out that shes a fan of my bookstore and a HP fanatic! Its great to make friends with a customer, even better when they have likes in common with you!
I posted the work in progress on my facebook which got me another love/wedding themed custom piece from another wonderful lady who was looking to give it to her brother and soon to be sister in law.
It really feels amazing to give a smile to someone who is about to(or just has) had one of the happiest days of their lives happen to them. exciting. Plus my friend Roman(who helped me get my bookstore job!) and his beautiful fiancee Corinne are going to have me do their save the date.
so much

Rainy day special

Today has been a busy day. I decided to finally get going on creating different things for my etsy other then prints. More on that soon. I want it to be a bit of a surprise for my blog;) I'm hoping people will be excited as I am.
reading material though that has been inspiring: "St Lucy's Home For Girls Raised By Wolves" by Karen Russell is a must read. Its fantastical. Short stories about girls with sisters who date ghosts and hunting for long lost siblings.
The above drawing is for something special hopefully coming soon to my etsy page. Yes..thats my bunny tea mug. Today was spent drinking much Sencha green tea. Which might be my new favorite tea..
rainy days are made for tea and drawing at least for me...

Violets Home

I found an odd list I made some years ago in an old journal:
-The furniture is uncertain.
-posse retoric and call questions.
-cake carrot
-blood possibility
-caution mind unstable.

I really don't remember writing it..or what it was for. A class? I really can't say.

My art has been featured wonderfully once again on nerdJERK
Check it out! Steph Cortes makes wonderful nintendo related hand knitted items which are totally worth the look.

I've been inspired lately by the civil war. Because of the ken Burns 9 part documentary I mentioned being hooked on a few blog posts ago.

This is the result. I enjoyed drawing this very much. It makes me want to travel and sit on cliff tops watching the ocean..

Sacrifice

I don't know how I feel about this watercolor. I put a filter on it too to make it warmer. I have pictures of mountain ranges beside my computer to look at. I'll post a photo of them soon. Listening to the soundtrack to The Piano.
I just realized Ada from The Piano might of slightly inspired this drawing..

Hats for all

Listening to Iron and Wine and wanting to try water coloring a piece today when I get home. I really need to get something to eat. I post the picture above of Annie Hall because I want to do an Annie Hall inspired art. It is in my top 3 favorite movies of all time. I drew this couple while at work. Wearing different hats. I scanned it wrong though..they are supposed to be looking at each other.

Its sunny outside. Time to go exploring. :)

and.. I like this hat I have.

1863

So I got on a roll today..I woke up and said...I want to draw a civil war bunny. Which started off with the second drawing. Which is based on General Sherman(I will admit I find the real general to be attractive). I wanted to make sherman into a bunny. But I wanted him to have a mustache like chamberlain. So this is what came of it. Then a friend recommended I draw an Abe Lincoln bunny...so I couldn't resist.
Famous Rabbits of history..hahah. Nerd out.

Yosemite

I feel like I am FINALLY starting to get over the cold that I've had for the past month or so...it really has been like a never ending sickness. I went home last week and I was supposed to go to yosemite with my mom but because of a high fever and my cold showing up again we couldn't go. So I named this drawing Yosemite. I can't wait to color her in. I have a few other images though that are ahead of her as far as what gets colored next though.
I've been watching ken burns civil war documentary series on netflix and I forgot that in highschool I had a huge crush on Joshua Chamberlain. Most of my friends had pictures of people like Ricky Martin in the fronts of their binders..I had a civil war general...We had to read "Killer Angels" when i was in highschool. Anyway. Thats random fact of the day I guess...
